Roof prism

He Rui optics' roof prism is a specialized optical prism that can change the direction of light by 90° through reflection. It consists of two plane reflective surfaces set at a 90° angle to each other. When light passes through a roof prism, it undergoes two reflections without inverting the image, only changing its orientation. The characteristic of a roof prism is that it can reverse the direction of an image without altering the image’s handedness

Roof prisms have a wide range of applications in the field of optics, particularly in binoculars, monoculars, diagonal prisms in optical systems, and optical fabrication. They are typically made from N-BK7 glass that complies with RoHS standards, suitable for applications where an image or laser beam needs to be deflected by 90 degrees. When passing through a roof prism, the image is deflected from right to left and from top to bottom. The prism’s oblique edges utilize total internal reflection (TIR) to reflect the image passing through the prism.
